Jacques (52) met Bev (55) on 40sDating after just a few months on the platform. Their first meeting went so well that they both felt an instant spark. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing - until life (and a little persistence) brought them back together.
Jacques still remembers their first date clearly. They met at a restaurant and hit it off right away. Talking to Bev felt natural and effortless, and when the place closed, she suggested they continue the evening with another drink. For Jacques, that moment said it all-there was something special between them. At the end of the night, however, an awkward goodbye almost ruined the magic. Bev leaned in for a kiss, but Jacques accidentally turned away. “Rookie error,” he laughs, “but we still laugh about it today.”
Their next date was completely different. Jacques took Bev to see a friend DJing at a club. It wasn’t really her scene, but she came along anyway. After the set, they left early and spent time talking. Even though nothing romantic happened that night and Bev thought they might not be a good fit, Jacques didn’t give up. “She’s an amazing woman,” he said. “I wasn’t going to let it end there.” His sincerity worked - and soon, things began to fall into place naturally.
One more meeting turned into many more. What started as a few messages on 40sDating grew into a bond that neither expected. They discovered how much they enjoyed simply talking - about everything and nothing at all. Six months later, they’re still together, stronger than ever, and still laughing about that first date kiss.
“Have an open mind and be yourself,” Jacques advises. Things might not go as planned at first - but if it feels right, it’s worth another try.
Sometimes love doesn’t get it right the first time. For Jacques and Bev, it took a second chance to realize what they’d almost missed. Today, they’re grateful they both gave it one more try - and even more grateful for where that try led them.
